Best yield investments, by risk level
'Best yield' depends on two things: how much risk you accept and how the income is taxed for you. The top raw yield is rarely the best fit.
Where yields come from
- Government bonds – lowest credit risk.
- Investment-grade company and municipal bonds.
- High-yield bonds, REITs and SEC-filed offerings – higher yields, more risk.
- Funds that hold any of the above.
Ranking that fits you
Sort by after-tax yield within the risk level you're comfortable with. IncomeGrid ranks every item by yield after tax for where you live: federal, state and each investment type (Treasuries, municipal bonds, corporate bonds, funds, REITs and filed offerings are each taxed differently).
